I have just order a Shinko 705 for the the 1150.At $160 for a rear tyre they are well priced. A Tourance is now over $400 at Cycletreads. It should last until December, with a bit of luck. Let's hope it turns out to be a reasonably good tyre. The tread pattern reminds me or a Tourance. The tread depth is close to 9mm. Below is what Shinko writes about the tyre. The Shinko 705 Series is a DOT approved bias ply dual sport tire for street and mild trail riding. A versatile tread pattern provides excellent wet and dry weather adhesion and smooth running on the highway. A 4-ply carcass and a durable rubber compound resist tearing during off road use and Aramid belts enhance high-speed performance.705 Series tires are available in nine sizes—including sizes for the Suzuki V Strom and BMW GS applications. All sizes are designed for front or rear fitment. Other features: * 4-ply Nylon construction * H Rated (130 MPH), Q Rated (99 MPH) or P Rated (94 MPH)

several years ago i put mitas on my R100GSPD. very good tyre in dry and wet but kept ripping block on one side where met main tyre. they replaced it for free and the next one did the same. Must of been the 60hp the gs was pumping out could not cope with
Just had the tyre fitted. Paid $145 +$3 disposal charge. The 705 looks good on the bike and the I like how the groves are angled for better self cleaning. They seem to stick nicely, but the roads are wet at the moment, so I haven't been leaning all that much.
Who'd you buy the Shinko from?cheersTracy
My understanding is that Shinko is what used to be Yokohama. I had one on the back of my Kawasaki (can we say that here?). Cheap as chips, got an awesome ride out of it in the dry, good wearing qualitys but……………. (always a but) she was a bit slippery in the wet. A mate told me they were made of recycled viynl records but he was prone to exagerate 😀 Let us know how it performs Koko
The 705 is a brand new tyre design from them, new for '09. I bought it at Cycletreads, they had to order it in for me. I bought it to tie me over until the SI ride, then I'll fit a new set. Maybe even Shinko again, if they perform as well as they look.
Hmmm… been looking at the shinko range and in their “podium” range they do a suitable front however the closest rear is a 170/60-18 rather than a 160/60.Is that slight increase in width likely to be a problem? I know bikes are more sensitive to tyre size than cars but would this likely cause any issues???cheersTracy

I just got back from a ride up north via Opononi and Russel. It rained from Russel until Auckland. I still have the radial front crossply rear combination and I've got to say that while it's doable I wouldn't recommend it. The feeling while cornering is just too vague. I am happy with the Shinko otherwise, it seems to have plenty of grip and has performed well enough in the wet. I will probably get a matching front soon, just for peace of mind.

Les these get incredibly good write ups from everyone I know that uses them. They're imported by a crowd in Palmerston North from memory. If you jump onto kiwibiker and the adventure forums you'd struggle to find one negative comment. It seems to be the tyre of choice.
My Shinko experiment is now over and I want to withdraw my endorsement. Today my rear tyre delaminated. Several tread blocks looked as if they were about to pop off and the inside of the tyre showed bubbles. Luckily I spotted it before I rode the bike home. Well, you could feel it while riding. Thethe tyre place I go to is only 2km down the road from work. They will be sending the tyre back and hopefully I'll get some money refunded.Yep, several people will say "I've told you so"
Cross Shinko off cheap tyre Xmas wish list, done 😀http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=31920&page=63Have you seen this Alex?
These things are trash. Mine delaminated too. The money is being refunded, but that doesn't help when you are in Twizel with the nearest replacement in Christchurch.
