Anyone have any ideas on who might be a good tour provider or operator in Nam? Its a bit hard to assess who is good and who is a disaster. As we all know, anyone can talk the talk on the net, so a bit of experience is a very valuable guide. Also any steers on the best time of the year to tour. After our traverse of those big hills between the north of India and Tibet last year, it seems Sept / Oct / Nov is a preferred time for that part of the world.Ta!Loins.

I found Kiwi Keith Holyoake and Lyndon Baines Johnson to be lousy guides, don't use any firm that has arisen from the ashes of their enterprises. You want to ride there? Did you not see the state of Jeremy Clarkson?Ah, but the state of the Viet girls in their ao dais on the nifty fifties! The late sixties weren't all bad.

These guys seemed to find a good place to hire a bike… personally though with two people and luggage I'd have got 2 bikes.http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/Vietnam/Red-River-Delta/Hanoi/blog-384980.htmlcheersTracy

Thanks Team for all the information. I looked up the Travel Blog courtesy of Tracey and I agree with Bwucie about those that lead us into Nam way back when: don't trust em!! I think I still have my 1965 placard out the back somewhere! And how much of that Agent Orange is still hidden there??? Steve: I looked up that site and also some other I had for touring there and it does appear still a little bit out there as a destination.... no matter how great the food!!. So, in preparation for maybe next year's adventure, I'm orf to Laos, Thailand and Myanma ( which used to be Burma last time I was there) as a practice. So thanks for the help and kind observations. Best was Bwucie's 'You want to ride there?' which made me reconsider...and in the end the glorious cuisine did not out-score the mud and shambles. Next year maybe! Cheers Loins
