Was just wondering if anyone had any useful tips when applying the clear plastic material used to protect the paintwork for my bike (f650GS). I am getting a friend to help me, but know that it is a fiddly procedure and costly if you mess it up!CheersGuv
You have probably got it on by now but I have only just joined up. We use it in karting. I find it best to get the backing off in one quick go and not pulling at much of an angle (to avoid very fine bubbles in its adhesive). Get a friend to hold it just above the surface of the paint and gently rub it on with a cloth over your finger. Go slowly to avoid any air bubbles and be careful on the curved bits as it stretches easily with the pressure of your finger (keep pressure very light). We put masking tape where we want the edges to be (rather than pre cutting it accurately) and then when it has been applied cut through it with a craft knife being cautious to only cut onto the tape and not through it. The tape and the excess can be easily removed and it gives your friend something to hold onto as you will be cutting his fingerprints off at the end. Good luck - it is great stuff once applied without a bubble. On the kart we get tyre markings on the pods from bumps with exposed wheels. These can even be scraped off with a razor blade and the sponsor's logos still look good underneath.
