Hi all, I've just posted this on the General board, but this is probably the best place for this query.. I'm a newbie to this list although I have owned a R100CS for the last 20 years. I have just brought a 2002 R1150R and really like it, except.... for the stifled exhaust note. I had Staintune mufflers on the R100CS and it preformed and sounded great! Are there baffles or spark arrestors in the standard muffler that can be removed for improved exhaust note/performance? Does replacing the Catalitic Converter for a Y pipe improve exhaust note and performance?Staintune list a SFi 1032 Fuel Injection Control Unit, but doesn’t list much technical info. Do they make a difference and or what is the difference between that and the BMW ‘performance chip’.Any advice or recommendations will be appreciated.

Hi Marto I don't know about the 1150R but on my 1150GS the muffler bolts inside a stainless steel dress tube. I removed the muffler and cut it open so I could remove the baffles and weld a pipe in to make it straight through. Closed the muffler up and put it back inside the stainless steel dress tube. I have also read on the advrider site about owners doing a similar job on the cat. Doing both these mods increases engine performance, reduces weight and exhaust note. I had a full Staintune system on my old R80GS which sounded fantastic.Search the net or UKGSER.com for the Steptoe mod to fueling if changing exhaust systems.Good lucKAdrian

I have a Y-pipe and and after market exhaust on my 1150GS. It sounds good, but not louder than the original (which I also have). It's a good modification.

Hi, I ran several different exhaust configurations on my 1100S, the most cost effective was a Laser Y piece and the stock cans. The maximum power came from a full Staintune system plus custom chip, but only a few % better than simply ditching the cat via the Y piece.

LVS ?? You mean a Low Volume Certification? No.Recently got a WoF at a testing station with my Neptune stainless can fitted. Can't see a need for a cert if I can do that.

Thats one of the reasons why modifying the internals but keeping the external look is the way to do things, and it is cheap.
