Hmm, might be a problem with the sidestand flicking up uncontrollably.I don't know if I'd buy one until they get the bugs worked out.

BMWs don't have bugs, they are called idiosyncrasies, which is just one step away from being a feature. It will be great seeing one of those bikes go through the rough stuff.

Latest News Two Podium Finishes for BMW Motorrad at Goldbach The fourth round of the German Cross Country Championship (GCC) in Goldbach was a mix of emotions for the BMW Motorrad Motorsport team. Joel Smets and Bert Meyer both ended up on the podium, but Simo Kirssi - who had been the leading man in the series so far with two wins and a second place - failed to finish the race due to an electrical problem. goldblach_01.jpgSimo KirssiIn perfect weather conditions and on a well-prepared racetrack in front of around 5000 spectators, the BMW team riders made a dream start to proceedings. After a Le-Mans-start, all three BMW factory racers were in front and it was Simo Kirssi who soon managed to put some distance between himself and his fellow riders. By the end of five laps, he had increased this gap to 30 seconds. However, the 'Flying Finn' was forced to consult his pit crew because he noticed ignition problems with his BMW G 450 X, but as it was impossible to locate the cause of it on the spot, Simo went back out on the track. Unfortunately the problem persisted and before long, Simo had no other possibility than to stop the race. "Well, that's racing - technical problems can happen," said Simo. "I had a good start and pushed right from the beginning. It was my goal to pull away fast so I could ride a little more relaxed in the second half of the race. Then all of a sudden my bike had problems with the ignition and I had to ride into the pits, where the team tried to fix things. I went back out on the track but I couldn't finish the race." Things went much better for five-times Motocross World Champion Joel Smets, although not entirely without incident. Over several laps the legendary Belgian rider fought a hard battle with French MX star and GCC newcomer Cyrille Coulon. goldblach_02.jpgJoel SmetsThen in the heat of the action, Joel accidentally touched his kill switch and was forced to stop for a moment. Furthermore he also broke his headlight bracket in the fight with the young Frenchman, which cost him vital seconds in the race. "It was a great race on a great track," said Smets. "You had to ride very precisely and there was no real margin for error - unfortunately I did make a few mistakes, such as touching the kill switch, which stops the bike! And then the headlight bracket broke which made it hard to control the front wheel, so I got this fixed at the fuel stop to avoid riding into the pits twice. Cyrille is a young and excellent rider in best shape, and by this time he had pulled too far away for me to catch him so I decided to take it easy and be satisfied with second place. I'm happy with my result but very sorry for Simo - it's a pity he couldn't finish the race." Team rookie Bert Meyer clearly showed his developing potential. The track was earthy and peppered with jumps, but the talented young rider paced himself perfectly throughout the two hours race distance and became faster with every lap, eventually finishing in third place overall. With this result he takes the overall lead in the GCC championship and he will start with the #1 plate at the next race in Mühlhausen on 9-10 August. goldblach_03.jpgBert Meyer"I am very happy with my performance," said the 21-year-old from Saxony. "Unfortunately I couldn't find my rhythm during the first lap but things went well during the second half of the race. I didn't have any technical or other problems, so all in all, it was a great race." Team manager Wolfgang Fischer was the first to congratulate the efforts of his riders at Goldbach: "Today the most important thing was for Simo to show that he can keep up with the speed of Coulon. He was more than keeping up, and had pulled a gap of 30 seconds before he had to give up due to a technical problem. His two team-mates made up for Simo's misfortune by both finishing on the podium, which is great news. Joel was really in the fight for the lead in the first half of the race and showed his true fighting spirit before those incidents occurred. The same can also be said of Bert Meyer. Steffen Albrecht was seriously attacking him in the first half of the race, but after the pit stop Bert fought hard and pulled away to take podium position. Now it's full attack for Simo for the final three races of the GCC season, and victory is all that matters!" goldblach_04.jpgJoel Smets (left side), Bert Meyer (right side)The tension is already mounting as the final three rounds of the series approach - especially as riders can 'drop' their worst result of the year. In reality, this means that Simo Kirssi is still theoretically in the lead, despite the DNF of this weekend and the fact that he is on even points with his strongest opponent, Cyrille Toulon. And ready to pounce of course is Bert Meyer. Before all this though, there are two more rounds of the Enduro World Championship to think about. GCC Goldbach XCPro Class results 1. Cyrille Coulon (FRA), Yamaha, 23 laps2. Joel Smets (BEL), BMW Motorrad Motorsport, 23 laps3. Bert Meyer (GER), BMW Motorrad Motorsport, 23 laps4. Steffen Albrecht (GER), Yamaha, 23 laps5. That is the fuel cap. The tank is under the seat.

The current thinking of the rear tank caps on top of the seat may be a problem.  It's a similar design on the KTM 690 Enduros, and they can catch lots of mud up there.  They now have an oversized foam gasket available as an aftermarket item.  I hope BMW have thought it through a little better.  What was wrong with the filler cap on the side, a la the F650s?690 Enduro photosMuddyass.jpgmuddygas.jpg76507008060.jpg
