Only two months to go until the official launch of the 450. There are  some reports coming out on the bike as per below. As promised... today I had the chance to test the G450X together with my XChallenge on the MX track of Horensbergdam, Genk, Belgium. This is the track that sometimes is used for the MX GP's. Nice track, steep ups and downs  Joël Smets and Jeff goblet joined us, and Smets really goes fast on the G450!!For me it was the first time on a real MX track, so I took it calm. it was slippery 'cause it rained all day long. Soacking wet...But the G450X was great, even in standard trim (15t sprocket?? and 30kW). Nice smooth power in the bottom and big hit at higher revs. I drove an other one that had 38kW short cut in place, but without the sport silencer. this one didn't convince me, I allways had the impression that I was riding in 3rd, while it was 2nd. It didn't pull that smooth at low revs, but at the top, Oh my!Maybe the first one I rode had a 14t sprocket instead of the 15?? In the crate you have 2 extra sprockets btw (13 and 14t). I was told this, because I only saw the 14t in ours. That to be said, the 15t is to long for MX use, and the stock settings for the suspension are waaaay hard for my 65kilos.After some fiddling it was ok, and great traction that bike has. Nice, nice. Now would I replace my XChallenge? Maybe. I did manage to get round the track on the XC and worn tyres. Easely. But in the lines and mud it is waaaay to heavy (my arms!). But then, I use it to commute every day. Maybe if i cannot use it to commute anymore, I'll sell it and buy me the G450X...Power is smooth, great traction, quick for advanced riders, and forgiveable for novices and woosies like me (I was scared from time to time, these hills were steep and high, certainly the descents...)Overall: great bike, and fun day!

I think we're ALL looking forward to your first ride.  Man, this bike has been coming for a long time!  Good thing you got your GSA to keep you sane while you've been waiting.

So, you planning on racing this thing Dean? It's a purpose built enduro machine and I suspect BMW never actually anticpated it being used for any other purpose, such as your daily commute or weekend adventure bike. In fact I've heard it'll come with some restrictions on road usage.

No I don't plan to race the bike. BMW has made the bike street legal. I would like to see BMW control where I or others can ride the bike. There would be speed retrictions for the tires fitted and no warranty if you race the bike.I will not be riding the bike on club rides. I have the adventure for any rides I had taken the HP2The bike will be a trail bike/adventure bike. What restrictions have you seen.

The 450 is an Enduro bike pure and simple. It has lights and is road legal only becuase it has to be in Europe, but it has not been designed as an adventure bike. Control is easy when you consider the electronics on the bike are such that one could conceivably imagine settings that recognise sustained periods of high road and engine speed, allowing the factory to null any warranty if the bike is used for anything other than its intended purpose. I do however think its a stonking piece of kit being near 40 kilogrammes lighter than the G 650 X challenge for roughly the same output. Just about perfect for ambitious enduro/trail riders like us  😀

So you reckon big brother is watching us? I hate it when my bike is smarter than I am. At least I am still ahead of the airhead :-D.

That must be why police ride them and some even own one or two BMW's. So what does that make them then 😮

Dean, have you had a ticket recently? You seem to have this antagonism against the police. If it's just Steve B. you can't stand, just tell him. I always thought that BMW stood for Bayrische Motoren Werke, I am sure that he's misinformed. As a tax payer you are ultimately the employer of the Police, so you could always make a case for buying them postie bikes. They would be much cheaper to buy and use a lot less fuel. People would just have to be a little more patient the next time they'd want police to attend an incident. I don't see people queuing up wanting to do the job, just maybe it isn't the cushy number some seem to think it is.  I am sure if they'd wanted  a cushy job, they would have gone teaching.
