    I'm asking this because I'm a bit of a newby to GS things. I know there are people on this site with lots of knowledge, so here's a request.I am looking at a 2000 R1150GS. It has luggage, 39000 km, engine bars, spotlights, sheepskin seat, spare ADV tyres (not sure of brand), and it looks like it is in very good condition. The owner advises it has been serviced fastidiously.What things should I look at? What are the issues with that model? Is 40000 km a lot? I suspect it isn't, I saw one with 145000 on it last weekend.The chap is looking at taking my F800ST, and paying me a cash difference. We'd both win, as we can avoid the dealers percentage. I don't begrudge the dealers making money, but if I can avoid paying it I will.Anyway, let me have your thoughts.Thanks in anticipation. 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛

    Did you have a ride on one? Did you really like it?  It's heavy. The weight is a problem off-road.  Did the bike you are looking at have its 40000km service? Does it have any leaks? Is there any play in the real wheel? Does it have ABS? Does the starter motor make any unusual noises?I am not a good person to ask about these bikes, because I really like my 1150. I have had no mechanical issues outside of normal wear. I ride my bike hard and have taken it places that it probably shouldn't have gone. It has been dropped more than once, put has always been picked up. It is not the ideal bike for a ride like the CCA, but it can be done. It is a very versatile bike, great two up, rides well on gravel, can give Cagivas a run for their money and last but not least, it is quite robust.If you like it, the bike is ok and the numbers stack up for you, I'd go for it.Post pictures.Cheers,Alex

    The 1150 is a great motorcycle. If you are happy to do road and the odd gravel ride as well as long distance touring, you cant go far wrong.Have replaced mine with a cagiva and haven't looked back, exept to see KOKO in my rear vision mirrors.

    I have no problem with saying that if you look after it you will have no problems…I got mine at approx 117,000 on the clock... now its closer to 140k's. 200k's with a good maintenance schedule you have no problems.Bearings in the shaft approx 70-80k's. Twin spark?? EnjoyDave

    Hi Pete – you've already had a lot of constructive feedback.I have an '02 travelled 58000. I've put 34000 of those Kms on in the almost 3 years I've had it.They are a great all roads tourer - fun in gravel when set up right. For serious adventure riding like the CCA they are IMHO too heavy. I regard mine as very predictable great for covering big distances. Rode mine from Alex to Picton in a day after the Rally - effortless.Another thing to be aware of re the 1150GS (not Adventure) is that first gear is tall,Good luck - cheers Aslan

    It's being delivered to me on Saturday this week.I rode it in Wellytown last week, it rode like..................an 1150GS. It was heaps lighter than the 1150RT, and the 100RT. I'm thinking weight will not be an issue, and it's all relative.It's a bit tricked out. Carbon hugger, Ohlin shocks.The owner wants my F800, I can't blame him for that.More later.

    I would suggest Port Waikato to Te Akau warf. You could include Klondyke road. Pick a fine day, the scenery is stunning. Oh, might pay to put on some TKC80 if you are planning to do more of this.

    As you are in CH CH I would suggest the Diamond Harbour to Port Levy / Akaroa as a starter.  Lees Valley is another, go in from the Oxford end, or Rainbow valley, Hanmer to St Arnaud.all good mostly metal riding with the getting there roads being tar seal. It's many years since I rode Lees Valley it may still be as good as it used to be.

    Yes. Pukekohe is a significant commute from Christchurch.The Chch BMWOR folk look like a great way to srat, so WAZA, BRING IT ON !!Oh, the bike doesn't get here until Saturday, so a few days to go yet (sigh) 😥
