Hi, I I am a brand new R110R owner. I have not owned a BMW since the late 70's when I owned a R90/6I bought the machine off trade me on an as is where is condition with a part exchange with my classic Z1000J. We exchanged bike at Hunterville as a mid point. whilst I rode  mine up there the BMW arrived on a trailer. A bit of a worry !!!. The bike is in immaculate condition with an indicated 14,000Km on a 1999 model. The bike handles like a dream and went well on the 200Km trip back to Wellington. However I was very surprised how noisy the engine? seemed. Quite a distinct deep seated rumble when I expected it to be completeley silent. Never having owned or ridden one of these before I was a bit worried, although it never missed a beat on way home. Are these completely quiet normally or should I be worried? Who are the top BMW mechanics in Wellington. Motorad?

Hi and welcome to the forum. If you haven't been around boxers for a while it could be that you are just not used to the sound they make. However, it's always possible that there is problem. Long storage is not always the best for a bike. Diagnosing a noise via the Internet is virtually impossibly. I suggest that you take it to Motorad for them to check it out, or contact someone from the Wellington area of the register so you can compare rumbles. I am sure people will gladly help out. I just came back from Wellington on my R80 and that makes all sorts of noises, earplugs seem to help a lot.

kokopelli, thanks for taking the time out to reply. I have asked for a diagnostic ear in Wellington via the members area. I assume this is the only way I can flush out a Wellington member?
