I have recently purchased a GS1200 Adventure and have found my right wrist is getting pretty sore after a few hours riding.  I want to stop the pain, which can be quite intense and I am mindful of carpal tunnel injury too.  Has anyone experienced the same discomfort and if yes what remedy would you suggest?

Hi it is simple go and see a Dr  😉 He might diagnose you with throttle lites and say no riding for 6 weeks 😐Only joking about the 6weeks but serious go to your GP.

The RS I had, had fully adjustable handlebars. When I first started riding it I found my wrist were getting tense and sore. Altered the angle of the grip and presto!! end of problem. Not sure of the set up on your 1200 but try altering distance from shoulder to handle bars by rotating bars forward or back. This of course all assumes that you have done the obvious and are an experienced "relaxed"rider who is not gripping on for dear life while trying to keep up  😮

It sounds like a case of OOS  🙁 Presumably you were not suffering on your previous machine? In which case perhaps try to identify the difference in riding position/angle of arms wrists etc.  If the machine was second hand it may be that the previous owner changed the position of the bars and/or clutch/brake levers.  A slight change in the angle of  your wrist or fingers on the grips could make all the difference.  Good luck.  🙂Malcolm

My 1200rt gave me sore wrists. My adventure at this stage does not. I agree with what has been said before. Try moving the handle bars up and down or in and out. You may need some lifters under the bars. Better still go and try some BMW bikes from your local dealer and see if you get the same problem. One other advice would recommend is check you are not holding the bars to tight you should only need a light grip.

Thanks for the advice, never had this problem with my last bike, a cruiser.  I have made a concerted effort to soften my grip but no joy yet. I will change the angle of the bars and if neccessary lift them too.  I have also bought a throttle rocker out of the USA so it will be interesting to see if this helps.

Now you'r talking. The throttle rocker is a exellent piece of equipment. I got one while still in SA and I still use it on long rides. If you haven't used it yet give it a try you will be amazed.  😎

Ahhh, now I see what the problem is.  With the GS you may have to pick it up occasionally… You are probably using the wrong technique and straining the hand.  Trick is to get Ross, Garry and the boys to pick it up for you, then no more sore wrists  😉

This site has been mentioned here before, but still worth another mention for those that haven't seen it:http://roadstarclinic.com/content/view/82/123/Avoid having a sore back to go with the sore wrists.

Can't offer a progress report as I've been unable to ride the bike due to other commitments. I will keep you informed in due course.

Guys,Fascinating to read this thread as I thought I was the only one with the problem.  I rode from Waikanae to New Plymouth on the windiest Saturday so far this year.  When I arrived my wrists were quite sore, despite numerous stops.  I put it down to have to hang on so much in the damn wind.  Returning the next day, no wind, the problem arose after about a half an hour.  By the time I arrived home they were quite sore: it made the ride quite unpleasantI have dicked around with the seat hight, but I can't go too high as I am a bit short at one end.  Looking at the bars on my R1100RT, I cannot see how they can be adjusted other than adding shims and the like.  Any ideas? 😎
