Yes it’s me. Photo was taken at a scramble held in 1968 at some place near Matamata. The bike is a 350cc “Royal Enfield Bullet” road machine that I cut the hell out of (see photo.)  It was before the days of Jap imports.  Geoff Perry and I used to have a great time racing each other at the back of the pack, him on a 350cc “Matchless” so we were racing for the honor of the marque.      (Geoff was latter killed while road racing)  If ever one of us was lucky enough to get a place the prize was $3.00 for first. $2.00 for second and you guessed it $1.00 for third.    We belonged to the “Auckland Motorcycle Speedway club” if I remember correctly.  Hope you find this of interest.  Regards Phil

thanks for the interesting background Phil - the Enfield looks quite a machine. Around the time you mention '68 I was a teenager in Dunedin with a '63 Triumph Thunderbird. In those days 350's were quite a handy machine - thinking of some of the famous marques like the BSA Gold Star. I guess machines like the Triumph Scrambler try to recapture that era.Cheers Stephen O aka Aslan 

I used to ride a 350 "gold star" back in the UK when I was about 20 years old. It was a clubmans's model used to ride it to race meetings, unplug the head light etc, race all day and ride home in the evening. ( if you did not fall off).Great fun.  Was to say the least very upset when it was stolen, one evening outside the speedway park in Southampton.  Had to send the girl home home in a taxi.  Sometime there is a down side?  Regards Phil
