I have the unfortunate situation that that flap covering the fuel cap lock on by 2002 F650 GS has been broken off.  The cap its self is still perfect as is the locking mechanism.  It is only the flap coving the lock that is broken.  The problem is that the BMW dealer I have contacted has advised that the flap is not available as a separate part but needs to be purchased with the fuel cap complete which costs $263.10 + GST.  😳1. Does anyone have experience of this situation that can advise a cheaper remedy?2. Does anyone know who where a 650 GS is being wrecked?

Why do you need the lock if it latches and you can still open the flap. I would rather not have a lock just a push button to open.

Thaks for your reply.  To answer your question.1. The flap that is broken is aid keeping water and dirt etc out of the key hole and lock.2.  I would like to keep the bike complete and original if I can.Cheers,

simple short term solution, stick a piece of tape over the lock mechanism to exclude the dust water etc. petrol cap without lock but with flap is UK pounds 45.00 + freight at motobins that would be a cheaper way of getting a flap for your existing cap, they also have 2nd hand parts, maybe they have a cap complete at a good price.Otherwise try some of the German sites as they also have 2nd hand parts.Don't forget the chaingang web site that is for F 650's.

Thank you “Air Head”.  I have emailed Motobins to enquire about a second hand part.Experience BMW have told me that the following models use the same part.  It may be that someone knows where one of these is being wrecked in NZ so that I can obtain one here.K1200RS/GT; R850 & 1100R/RS/RT/GS; R1150R/RS/RT/GS; R1200GS/ST/RT; K1200S/R/GT, F650CS/GS/DAKAKAR.
