As usual, a few Sunday hours to spare and Pete had called around to see who was up for a ride over to the Gladstone pub. The usual suspects turned up at Caltex Rimutaka around 10.00am; me and Ken (HP2s), Pablo and Pete (Dakars), Jim (1150 GSA), Kerry (650X Challenge) and a new friend Peter, on his brand spanking new KLR650 – nice!!There were about a billion (okay, so I lost count after I ran out of fingers) other Kiwibikers lining up for a run somewhere, but there not following us on their VTRs, oh no - we're looking for no seal thank you  😀The weather was looking on the up as we traversed the mighty hill and, albeit a bit blustery at times, it came out pretty okay on the other side. A sedate jaunt through Martinborough with people out enjoying the winter sun and taking on coffees in the numerous cafes, but we were motivated to meet the Coast - so straight through on this occasion.First stop was about half way down the descent of the Martinborough-Hinakura Road. More of an opportunity to take a few photos than anything elseWould this be an HP4 then?KIF_0976.jpgKIF_0977.jpgKIF_0978.jpgKerry slides inKIF_0979.jpgKIF_0980.jpgKIF_0981.jpgFurther on up the road (note wee Eric Clapton influence there), it turns to gravel and not too far along is the Hinakura junction, at which sits the hall. KIF_0982.jpgStraight ahead, a fantastic windy gravel road that follows the Pahaoa River for about 18Kms out to Glendue and Pahaoa Sations and the Coast, and today we are going to go for a look, yeehaa!!KIF_0983.jpgKIF_0984.jpgKIF_0985.jpgI thought I’d stop for pictures at the only water crossing today (I know, so lame!!)KIF_0986.jpgKIF_0987.jpgKIF_0988.jpgOnly Kerry tried to show some form, not bad either Mr Potts  😎KIF_0989.jpgBack to the Hinakura Hall, then a blast into Ngakonui, through the station and over Summerhill to Gladstone. Some new gravel, laid very thick, made it all the more fun but no real dramas from anyone today. The stock seemed to be out in force today though. You get this in NZKIF_0990.jpgA quick bite to eat at the Gladstone Pub, gas in Carterton and everyone headed straight back home to their Sunday chores (or motor racing on TV if you’re clever). Not a bad couple of hours out, good company, great gravel, good times.CheersGarry

great report as always Garry – glad you folks had a ball. When Pete emailed me about this ride I'd already committed to ride with another pal on his RT KBike – inappropriate for where you guys went. We did a pleasant loop through the Akatarawas to Waikanae and back over the Paekakariki Hill stopping for bacon & eggs at 'Bed Cafe' in Pauatahanui - no pics sorryCatch you all for a ride sometime soon. Cheers S aka Aslan
