Hi,Having taken advice from people who know far more about these things than me, I've decided to have the rocker bolt welded up and then to cut a new thread in the solid metal. My question is this: Can anyone recommend someone in the Auckland area who can take the cylinder head off for me and do the welding? Never having much to do with this type of thing I'm a bit lost. Many thank in advance...

Hi,try these guys http://www.ubd-online.co.nz/taylorautomotive/ depending on access, the head may be able to stay on the bike. This company may also be able to help http://www.brugar.co.nz/index.htm Give them a call. If they can't help, they should be able to recommend someone else.Cheers,Alex

Is it safe to do the welding without taking the head off? I remember in Long Way Round welding the chassis caused the ABS to stop working.Cheers,

Good point, I am sorry but I don't know the answer to that. A good welder should know, perhaps even Experience BMW.

Re the Long Way Round, they should have disconnected the battery first so if you plan to do any welding on the bike at any time i repeat DISCONNECT THE BATTERY.

I think I'd go as far as disconnecting the ABS module too! The cost of frying one is horrendous!
