    Well folks, on the way home from work last night the spedo on the 80 decided to throw a fit, and started reading over 200 kph whilst I was pottering along in third.I've already had to fix the thing once already, so I figure it's time to start looking for a long term replacement ... OEM replacement or complete new cockpit with Touratech IMO/Sixo, GPS, ... the whole nine yards, but I digress.Just to make things more interesting, the WoF expires this week, so the question is, does anybody know if I can use a cycle spedo unit on the bike to get it through a WoF in the short term?CheersJohn

    Cheers CB, PM sent.However I've just been looking at the trail tech website, and the vapor computer looks way sexier (and cheaper) than the touratech option.For some reason, the hight tech spedo seems to me like a wonderful counterpoint to the ultimate simplicity of the 80.Is it too early to start my Christmas list ... 😀

    I had one on my GasGas, wonderful bit of kit! Well made, seems utterly reliable. Best source is via the States, I got mine from http://www.dunesport.net/  very helpful, way cheaper than here, in fact, I'm not sure you can get the vapor here yet, only the Endurance I think. I would like to put one on the KTM, but I can't see an easy way to replace the warning lights for oil pressure etc from the stock dash.cheersTony

    Tony, this is all well and good, but I'd be grateful if somebody from these parts could actually give me an answer about if any of these things would pass a WoF … 😀... and at the risk of hijacking my own thread.Trail tech do a “dashboard” option for the Vapor, but as it stands it only has space for 4 warning lights, and I'd want the minimum of five.  What might be worth investigating is using one of the trail tech ATV dashboard mount options.The another alternative seems to be the Acewell range, as they carry up to 6 warning lights but they are more expensive, and aren't anywhere near as tidy as the trail tech option.  Well, not in my opinion anyway.Back to the topic ... are they legal?

    I've got to get a warrant tomorrow, if I don't forget I'll ask them. I can't see why they wouldn't be, those things tend to be more accurate than the stock system.

    Thanks Alex,If you can get a straight answer from someone at a testing station it would be good.Obviously, if a basic cycle computer would pass a WoF it would allow me some time to be that much more ... creative when it comes to conecting a more sophisticated device like the Vapor.If they don't satisfy the requirements of a WoF, I'll see what Cruiserboy's mate can come up with.Either way, I'll keep you all posted.

    The Vapor will certainly pass the WoF. It has a permanent backlight. The only possible fail point for a cycle type one is the lack of permanent illumination at night. That was always a potential problem in the UK, what the rule is here, I don't know. Try the Kiwirider forum perhaps?

    I got the new warrant without problems, didn't expect any either. He never mentioned the brake lines. I asked him about the bike computer and he couldn't see any problem with it and would have passed it. Then I queried him about the back-lighting and he got a bit unsure and mentioned you should write to the LTSA. Sounds to me like it's a grey area and you will probably be alright. Cheers,Alex

    you may find that your local garage probably wont check it ( the original ) they will just assume it works. I know my WOF garage has never asked . all tests are static ones not rolling.

    The last two WOF's at my local VTNZ have involved an inspector taking my bike for a short sprint around the carpark, presumably to test the brakes but possibly also to check the speedo.

    Atthe VTNZ I used to go to, they got me to ride it and test the brakes  😀In fact, I never actually got off the machine during the whole inspection.

    Johnny  Johnny  Johnny next time u wont to no an answer like this go straight to the “Organ Grinder” and leave the “monkeys” out of it. The answer is “YES” and there is a model that u can get from a local bike shop that has about 4 screens and backlight  and very easy to read. Only goes up to 199kmh but the only time u will ever do that is if ya bike gets thrown out of a plane.  they sell this model on US sites and say pushbike one not suitable for motorcycles that that is bullshit as I had one. u will need to make sensor lead longer. only two wires in it so no problem. do not buy a wireless one.topeak panoram  http://www.mtbr.com/reviews/Computer/product_87497.shtml  or google it.  boogie on down to ya local cycle shop and ask to get u one' mine cost about $80 NZ but appears to be lost in space at moment. gave it to someone to try and they returned it but i misplaced in my gargaeSigma models goes to 299kmh but small screenover and out. monkeys to feed

    immmmmmmmmmm. thats who had it but i am sure i got it back. i will have a looksie next time he calls in as i no the mod i did to lead.was it a panoram he had on his bikeits good to have an informant in every place  :mrgreen:
