If you are planning to drop your bike a lot the gel battery is better, otherwise the ordinary one should be fine. Has your one given up the ghost?

I don't like having to check any thing so go for the gel or buy a battery charger/tender and get some more milage out of the old battery. This would be a better poll. πŸ˜‰

I've just replaced the battery on the 80, and after a lot of reading and phoning, I've gone for a Panasonic LC-X1220P.At $140 for the Panasonic, compared with $400 for the Odyssey it seemed like a no-brainer to me.+ 1 for the Gel battery

I replaced the battery in my RS 9 months ago with a dry cell battery avaliable from exide, not sure of the numbers etc but it is the one they sell to fit roadside booster kits. Cost 40 bucks and apart from the terminal size was an exact fit. So far no probs

Just replaced the battery on the R1100S after it failed to fire on the old one – got the prices from Experience, and it is a no-brainer. Gel, not Bee-Em: buy almost three of them for the cost of a Bee-Em Battery.Battery and tender, 800 bucks, vs 120 bucks. No contest.

So how long do these batteries last? Mine has been going for four years now.

So how long do these batteries last? …

I was talking to Sebastian at Experience on Friday about this very subject. He seemed to think that a gel battery with a tender could last anything up to 8 years in balmy North Island conditions, but 4 years is good going after European (or Otago) cold winter starts.

Not bad life for the battery. With the price you just have to look after it.Β  THX. πŸ˜‰

Richard I have had 4 BMW bikes and have never needed a battery tender and most owners I know don't need it as well.

Is this change of mind recent DeanΒ  πŸ™‚Β

My original gel battery on the 1150Gs lasted about 18 months when it was replaced under warranty,
