On okt., 10th, 2006 my wife Petra and me picked up a „free day“ and took a trip to the great ahornground in the Karwendelgebirge.First we took the way north. From Sonthofen to Rettenberg, Wertach and Nesselwang. From there straight ahead to Rosshaupten and Lechbruck. Next came Steingaden and right the way to Murnau. Via Saulgrub and Bad Kohlgrub we reached Murnau. From there to Großweil, Schlehdorf and Kochel at the sea. Here begins the wonderful street up to the Kesselberg. This street is closed from this side on weekends, but only for motobikes! Because of some bikers from munich had taken a bad picture there – sorry! But between the week you can go there and enjoy the curves and turnes there! Then we’re reached the Walchensee. In summer it is very hectic here and a lot of traffic – but not so in autumn! We’re took a rast and enjoyed the view over the beautiful sea! Then came Wallgau and the drove along the small private street to Vorderriß (you have to pay 3 € for using). Via Hinterriß we reached the “Eng”. Another 1 € to pay! This is one of the beautifullest place in Karwendelgebirge: The great ahornground – simply wonderful!!!Espacialy in autumn it is a MUST!!! Those colours, those country, those mountains – nearly perfect! So we took a walk and enjoyed the area around. Maybe we where a little bit to early there – one oder two weeks later, the colours are maybe more beautiful, but still a great impression!(more fotos from this wonderful landscape you'll find under großer Ahornboden)The way back to Sonthofen we drove to Wallgau, Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Lermoos. Than to Reutte and the Gaichtpass. To the Tannheimer valley and the Oberjoch-Pass to Hindelang and back to Sonthofen.Finaly: A wonderful day! With the best greatings from good old germanyRudi
Thanks for the report Rudi. This adds a bit of international flavour. No snow in sight, so Jim should be happy, too. Cheers,Alex
